✥ Giveaway: Ramsign Lettered Sign! ✥

Instead of a Reader Feature this week I thought we'd do a little GIVEAWAY instead!
Ramsign sells porcelain enamel signs and today they're giving away a sign!!
You could totally use them for your home address, but my favorites are the one and two numbered round signs. They feel vintage and cool- I'm especially crushing on the circle plaques.  Wouldn't they be the perfect accent to a boy's room or maybe on a bookshelf?
You can customize the color, the design style, the shape of the sign, the font, and the trim! Dude, that's a lot of options!
This is a serious deal- 4 number signs cost $99 and our winner gets up to 5 letters for free!

Bathroom [almost no paint] Revamp

Ohmygoodness you guys! I've been super duper crazy busy cuz my grandma was coming for her annual visit- and oh my gosh our spare room was a disaster area. I had a ginormous list of things I wanted to accomplish before her visit- so although I didn't get a post published before she got here last week- I have several completed projects that will be coming out in the next little while {yay!}

✥ Reader Feature: Craft Room Reveal ✥

I am having a fabulous week with my grandmother. She's here visiting with me from Cali. This has meant a week off from blogging- well, for the most part. I did find the time to share this awesome craft room from Anna @ Directions Not Included with you guys!
You've all heard about my spare bedroom that multi-tasks as a place for guests to stay, an office for the Hubs and myself AND a dumping ground for projects past and present!!
So obviously I am super duper jealous of your guys' craft rooms and this one from Anna is like a little crafty dream come true!
 ✧✧✧✧✧
Hi there! I'm Anna from Directions Not Included. I'm so excited that Becca asked me to share my craft room/office with all of you. This room has been my special haven as we tackle a full house renovation by ourselves. It is actually the first room in the house you can consider finished. I have my priorities straight!

I share the space with the hubby so we have two desks. The one on the right is his computer desk and the one on the left is my main crafting area. Both desk tops are made from hollow doors we stained and sealed. The bases are IKEA drawer systems for me and some repurposed file cabinets that I painted for him.
The room is a decent size but the key to an organized craft room is using all your space wisely. Little nooks make a great place for my calendar and keeping everything contained helps create order when I'm making a mess crafting away.
This cubby system from IKEA was an inexpensive investment that helps me contain a bunch of odds and ends within reach of my work area.
Shelves on the left of my desk help organize and display some of the more colorful pieces of my supply stash. Who doesn't like looking at ribbon and thread on display. Same goes for glitter organized on some cheap picture ledges.
Opening up the closet by removing the door and adding a simple DIY curtain helps maximize the storage for all the stuff I don't want hanging around outside.
This is the hubby's area where he runs the business part of his ceramics studio. I'll admit I cleaned up his desk for these photos. He's the messy one with piles of papers. Since he helped me get this room finished, I can let the messiness slide most days ;)
Seeing as this room looked like this at the beginning of 2011 when we bought this house and when renovations started, I think we've made some good progress.
Before:
After:
Becca, thanks again for letting me share my room. I hope you all enjoyed and please stop by Directions Not Included to see what else we are up to in our crafty and DIY adventures. Hope to see you around!
~Anna
✧✧✧✧✧
I love the color scheme Anna chose and how white and crisp all the is furniture. It makes me want to learn how to sew just looking at it- OK, well maybe not that! But it does make we want to plow through my huge pile of half done projects!!
I love the creative use of a hollow core door for the desk top- I think it looks like a million bucks! Anna creatively extended the length of the door since one was not long enough to cover the desk and extend to the wall. Check out her tutorial if you're thinking about doing the same type of project.
She also has a ton of craft tutorials you should check out when you have a minute.

✥ My Style Defined ✥

In case you missed this post I did for Jennifer at a Place 2 Call Home- here it is. She invited me to talk about my design style, so pull up the computer, get cozy!
Here's a pic of our home- ok, let me be more clear, it's the dining room part of the living/dining room/kitchen which I call "livitchen". For the past three years, the condo life has been, livitchen.
This pic is perfect for showing my love for both styles! I love the vintage globes and suitcases above a brand new Ikea mirror and very modern moose head!
Truly, my style falls into four categories: "NEW-NEW", "OLD-NEW," "NEW-OLD," and "OLD-OLD."
The New-New- Our sectional is what you would call "new-new". It's a custom made sectional from Basset Furniture and I designed it to have clean lines and a modern feel. Pretty much all the pillow cases on the couch are also "new-new." Surprisingly, "new-new" is kinda fun to say!

The New-Old- This is when you buy something with the intent to change it into something that looks "aged". Take a look at the curtain panels behind my couch. They are new Ikea curtain panels that I stenciled with a damask stencil. I wanted to create an aged looking fabric to balance the newness of the couch.

The Old-New-These are the things we already have that get a makeover to resurrect an old item and make it into a new one. The lamp on my front table in the livitchin was a brass monster, but had these gorgeous lines. I used a 20 cent clearance can of spray paint to makeover the lamp and also the mantel clock beside my couch. It was this ugly old thing the hubs received as a gift ages ago. I gave both a fancy little face lift and transformed the look.

The Old-Old- We should all be familiar with this category. These are all our vintage finds- the stuff we scour thrift stores and maybe even Ebay for.  I have several vintage finds scattered around the home. I heart the old blue mason jars and their zinc lids and old fans like this turquoise beaut on the table.
My apiary sign on my gallery wall is old-old- but it was a makeover too. It was an old wood sign that looked a mess and I painted it to look like a different old wood sign. My husband says it's the wild west in me... even though I'm from the east coast.

Thanks for touring my crib!

✥ Reader Feature: Kitchen of MY dreams!! ✥

If I could design a kitchen today, this one is the closest I've featured to my personal taste. I am dying over this one guy, like dying!! Kelly from Eclectically Vintage excitedly purchased her old home just to have the chance to create her {and my} dream kitchen!

I love all the special details. Like these wine jug lights- Kelly's personal favorite touch in the whole room. They do make a statement, don't they?
Extra deep and oh so fabulous farmhouse sink? Check.
I don't know what  like better in this shot, the RED 6 burner Blue Star stove  -or-
the absolutely gorgeous marble backsplash that touches the ceiling!!  Kelly got it on Ebay and I think it's my favorite pattern I've seen- not to mention it's {I think} herringbone. Herringbone is my huge favorite over the trendy chevron, so this is right up my alley. I am freaking out over the subtle texture it adds.

The cabinetry you're looking at is all custom. Kelly worked straight with the woodworker and say it saved her a ton of money.  Don't you LOVE how she accessorizes the room.
Her room is LOADED with vintage touches. You HAVE to stop by and chec them out- but here's a few. Check out her Cosco stool and vintage candy jar. I love the how she accessorizes the counter and open shelving in this pic!

A paper cutter for a tray? I never would have thought o f that- but it looks like it was meant to sit there, doesn't it?

Here's a pic facing the other direction. Kelly really thought of every detail. I love that prep sink and look at that glass front fridge!!
Off in the distance you can see Kelly's one of a kind lighting over her table.

The thing about this kitchen remodel is all the small details. It really is awesome. I only scratched the surface here- you guys should definitely pop over and see them for yourself. Kelly style is eclectic and unique. Oh yeah, she also has a totally fab mudroom makeover you should see! It's so great I was planning to feature that before Kelly posted her kitchen!

Create & Add a G+ Icon to Your Blog [tutorial]

Have you guys heard the Google Plus buzz?
I ignored it until Google went and announced they would be yanking my favorite free photo editing software - Picnik. After that announcement, and the rumors Picnik would still be available if you belonged to G+, I decided to sign up just to check it out.

For all you guys who have already jumped on board I thought I share how I made my G+ icon. First you need to make the icon image, and there's a few ways. Then it's a few simple steps to turn the image into a working G+ icon. [THESE SAME STEPS WILL WORK FOR ALL ICONS EXCEPT RSS  -here- AND EMAIL-here-]

Make the icon: WAY #1  {How I made mine}
1] Upload one of your existing button images to Picnik {or photo editing program}.

2]  Make a patch to cover the old emblem.
Go to: Stickers, then to "Shapes." Next, select a square to cover the existing label, whether it's a "P" or "T" or whatever. Then use the dropper to color match the square to the rest of the icon.
3] Edit the icon to add a "G+"
Now- Go to "Text" and select "Georgia"
It's not an exact match, but it's the closest I could find! You want a lower case "g" and place it so it's hanging off the icon a little.
Next add the "+" symbol

Make the icon: WAY #2
1] If you don't have an button you can upload a pic of the outline of a square {or whatever shape you want.}.
2] Edit the square to look like your other icons
If your other buttons have rounded edges, like mine, you should do step 2: Select "Matte" and round out the corners of the square.
3]Go to "Duo-Tone" and select the colors for your square that will match your blog.
4] Edit the icon to add a "G+" Now- Go to "Text" and select "Georgia"
You want a lower case "g" and place it so it's hanging off the icon a little. Next, add the "+" symbol

Make the icon: WAY #3
 1] You could upload a stock icon--they can be found for free all over the web.  -Or-  You could also just grab drag any of the free icons below {by dragging it onto your desktop. }
2] Edit the square to look like your other icons
Go to "Duo-Tone" and select a color for your square.
3] Edit the icon to add a "G+"
Now- Go to "Text" and select "Georgia"
You want a lower case "g" and place it so it's hanging off the icon a little. Next, add the "+" symbol.

-NOW-
A] Your image needs a HTML code
Upload your image to a photosharing site, like Photobucket, and "save a copy" then you can get an URL for the pic. COPY the "HTML code".
B] Get your Google+ account URL
Pop over to your Google+ account and grab the web address for YOUR profile page.

Now that you have an image URL for the icon you made and the URL from your G+ account insert them into the red portions specified for this sample code. Easy Peasy, yes?
I also like to center my icon on my side bar. If you want yours centered it's easy to do- just insert the underlined code onto both sides of the code you've just inserted your information into.

C] Add your new icon to your blog.
For Blogger: Go into Layout for blogger. "Add a Gadget" and open a new "Configure HTML/JavaScript"
Now you can input your new icon using the code above. Just add your info where the red writing is. First the URL for your G+ account, then add the html code for your new icon.

Inserting the HTML code is where Blogger and Wordpress will differ. If you have Wordpress then upload your icon how you added your other social media icons. Sorry I can't give a better description!

My last tip- I put my "G+ code" in the same "Gadget" as my code for my Pinterest, RSS, and Email buttons. I just added it right in at the end and then made sure the "center code" was behind the last icon I added.
It should look something like this when you're done. The buttons all lined up and centered in the middle of the sidebar- or where ever you've put it.

Need any other gadget tutorials? Want to make your own working  Email or  RSS icon? Or add a blogging signature to your posts? How about personalize your favicon?- you know, that little symbol that shows up at the tops of the browser window when people are reading your blog- DIY one in a few minutes.

Here's the thing about this little blogging design stuff, isn't very hard! There's no need to pay people to make these small gadgets and icons! You CAN DIY it!!
