Tea Towel Pillow Cover | No Sew

I am a crazy huge window shopper, it's like a disease- I just can't get enough. I like to visually devour the eye candy, and then take that inspiration home to DIY my own version. I will look and look and look, without buying and I know that that drives Zack crazy, but at least it's not as crazy as the time my friend's husband sleepwalked a so-called, "pillow bomb" out the front door in the middle of the night to "save" his family. Ha! Ha! Ha!

Inspiration for this guy came from Mandi's super rad blog, she showed how to create this leather pillow, but I was starstruck by it's companion, this little aztec gem beside it. It's it gorgeous? I hope you all have as much fun reading this post as I did making my own pillows!

That baby was all I could think about and I just had to make my own. Lets all grab some fabric, get some paint, and I'll show you how to make a no-sew pillow.

Materials:

  • Painter's Tape
  • Tea Towel,
  • Fabric Paint or Fabric Paint Additive and Paint
  • Sponge
  • Stitch Witchery
  • Iron on Velcro
  • Pillow stuffing, new or from old pillow

Directions:

  1. Lay the tea towel on a protected surface with cardboard between the folded towel.

2. Create stencils using plastic file folders or other water proof material.
Then tape off your pattern on the tea towel.

4. Use a sponge or stencil brush to fill in your taped lines and stencils with fabric paint or mix fabric paint additive with regular craft paint per the directions on the bottle.

3. Fold the towel in half and lay Stitch Witchery along the edges leaving a 6 inch gap

4. Along the 6 inch gap you just left, place the velcro and use pins to affix it in place if needed.

5. Now iron all the edges, including the Stitch Witchery and the Velcro
6. Stuff your pillow with filling. I just recycled the innards of an outdated pillow I no longer like.

That's all there was to it, the pillow is so easy to make and I love how the edges appear to banded be finished properly, since the towel had finished edges. I think this would also be cute modifying a bed pillow case or with Ikea's cute towels.

One final image, to show you how much Beau Doggy loves it. It is so funny, no matter what project I'm doing the pups will follow me and try to pop into my pics. I hope you like this little project, it was fun and easy...and now I can have my own version of Mandy's fab pillow. Let me know what you all think.

Oh, by the way, my business is doing really well. This week I made a sale to a cabinet shop who're doing a fantastically high-end kitchen. I'm hoping to go by this week and take some pics of the work in process. If I get them I'll turn out a post on it and, as always, I'll share in Instagram.
Take care and enjoy.
