"I hate that word... DOWN! I'm on the way up! When you see someone walking high... it's me!" said The "Unsinkable Molly Brown." I love that movie! First female entrepreneur to get a musical done in her high honor. I'm watching it right now, which is so fitting for what I'm about to tell you.
So, I had a very exciting week!!! Last week I got a notice from BYU that Shark Tank was auditioning BYU entrepreneurs and I was invited to audition Wetaherwood! So only two days later, on last Saturday , I auditioned for Shark Tank!! I was armed with only a few wood samples, our stain and ourselves! We enter a room in Camp 4- a entrepreneurial center in Provo, UT.
We were pitching to a young-ish female producer, there was a BYU Entrepreneurial Center Rep and another female photographer who took our picture throughout the entire pitch! I was only supposed to get 60 seconds to pitch Weatherwood, but the producer loved my product so much, I was in there for over 5 whole minutes! They took the time to ask all about Weatherwood, scribbling notes all down her paper and even looked at some completed project photos we had on our phones! The producer even mentioned how much she loved the rustic look! The producer even mentioned how much she loved the rustic look!
Zack and I walked out of the room, turned to each other and said "That went well!" Usually I have regrets about what I said or did in high pressure situations, but this went exceptionally well. Of course, I've been doing Weatherwood full-time for the entire year... so I was easily able to answer all the questions. I had such a good time. The MBA was fantastic training for such an event. After being in a pressure cooker for two years, this was nothing!
I think the funniest part of the entire process was the last kid who pitched. He came out screaming at the top of his lungs, "That was so high pressure!" Everyone laughed. A funny thing happened on the way out though. A guy under a SubZero tarp said, "that ain't high pressure. Being on the show is high pressure!"
His name was Jerry and as luck would have it, he was giving out free ice cream! Score!! Jerry was on Shark Tank. It was really something to hear him talk about getting on the show and what happened after. I'm glad I got the chance to meet with him to get the inside gauge.
The producer told me after the audition, if they wanted us, it would take sometime to hear back from them. Our friends at Fiber Fix and Scan said it would take some considerable time as well. They all basically said it would take months or even longer before we hear back from them, if ever!
