Faux Barnwood Sliding Barn Door & St Peter's Basilica, Rome

When you got to Saint Peter’s Basilica you have to tour Michelangelo’s famous DOME.

It’s a bit of a hike but well worth it plus you can get your exercise on! πŸ’ͺ🏼The interior ceiling decoration is all mosaic and the gold πŸ’›background sparkles even in the low light. The angels πŸ‘ΌπŸ» around the balcony are actually 6 feet tall! Check out my last post for pics looking down from the outside of the dome.

Saint Peter’s Basilica is the largest church in Christiandom. ⛪️You walk inside and you’re immediately struck by the scale and magnitude of this beautiful building. Even the “puti” angels are 6 feet tall! πŸ˜‡ When you add it the art and history it’s almost overwhelming. πŸŽ¨

The basilica houses Michelangelo’s PIETA, marks the spot Charlemagne was crowned king πŸ‘‘and is the burial site of Saint Peter & many Pope.

A super sneak peek of St Peter’s tomb!! ☠️We were told you had to book tickets months in advance to see the crypt. But - on one of our Basilica trips, the tomb was open!! πŸ˜  The tomb is underneath the basicilica and this area is “NO Photos Allowed” but you can see where the holy apostle’s buried.

This tutorial is to help you turn an raw cedar into a weathered cabinet. These cabinets are for a flower shop section of Trader Joe's. The are a gorgeous accent piece and the style would look so pretty as a console table or dresser, too.

Directions

1. ] BUILD The cabinets are a modification of these Ana White plans for an office cabinet [link.] Instead of feet, they have industrial casters. Obviously the hinges and latches are different, too.

2.] STAINFor stain we choose Salvage stain from Weatherwood. This will give you a light weathered look, light grays and warm tones.  You can use an atomized gun to apply your stain. First, pour it through a strainer and then you can pour it into your atomized gun. You'll want to spray it on the wood in overlapping motions, making sure to drench the wood. The wood will dry in about 30 minutes, see in the below video. The wood will dry in about 30 minutes, see in the videos below.

3.] SEALUse the  VARNISH TOPCOAT for cabinetry, to seal the look for a maintenance free finished product. This is also the right finish for furniture. (For floors, you can do this too, but use the Polyurethane overtop). The Varnish dries almost instantly and you want to apply 2-3 coats for heavy use areas.

Check out this post for cabinetry made the same look:

Didn't the ceiling turn out dreamy? I hope to see some photos when the rest of the space is complete. It's going to be amaze balls! If you have any questions, leave'm in the comments below. And don't forget to SAVE 10% on all Weatherwood projects with code: WELCOME10
