Beachy Side Table Transformation & Santa Scala, Rome

The Santa Scale was quite the experience! πŸ’œπŸ’™ According to Catholic tradition, these are the Holy Stairs from Pontius Pilate in Jerusalem. They are the stairs Jesus Christ stepped on his way to trial during his Passion. ✝️

The Stairs were brought to Rome by Saint Helena, or Emperor Constantine’s mother, in the fourth century. Pilgrims have a traveled to see the stairs for centuries, and they go up on their knees, while praying one prayer per stair.

The marble is uneven with deep grooves work out from shoes! πŸ˜± The journey up the stair case takes about 10-12 minutes.

This beautiful space Segways perfectly into our gorgeous project this week! This project is made of poplar but if your project is a different species, please refer to the color chart for your gorgeous options! LINK

Materials

  • Unstained furniture piece (can be new wood or stripped, this is poplar.)
  • Sand paper and palm sander

Directions

1.] SAND: Begin with either new wood or strip previously finished tabletop. Start with a rough grit with a 120 grit.

2.] STAIN: Once the wood has been stripped or sanded back down to raw, you can stain it using Weatherwood Stain's Reclamation stain That will this pretty tan color you see below. This is pretty similar to Restoration Hardware's "Natural" color.

3.] LIGHTEN: Use Weatherwood Stain's White Maintenance Oil to add a beautiful white washed patina. You can see the a piece of wood in the video below, where I added the White Oil patina. This look is extremely popular right now and very beautiful.

To use the Maintenance Oil, simply wipe or brush the Oil on, wait 5-7 minutes, and then wipe it back off. You can see below, it highlights the grain rather than diminishing it. It just adds that sun-kissed pop!Allow for the Maintenance Oil to cure.

5.] PROTECT: Then seal the table with 2-3 coats Weatherwash Varnish, we used Dead Flat.
