Hello Friends! How has everyone been? I have been sick for the past few days with some sort of upper respiratory virus. A little rest and some antibiotics did the job but needless to say, it stank sitting on the couch doing nothing, especially when you have projects staring at you saying “please help me, work on me next.” So this little project was calling out my name while I sat on the couch with tissues and stared back at it.
I bought this cute little lovely because she had such beautiful long shapely legs. This is how I describe my furniture folks. If it’s got a nice pair a legs, it’s comin’ home with me! Furniture…focus!
On the not so pretty side, she was falling apart at the seams. The whole top of the table was coming off and the bottom shelf had some pretty nice stains to match.
The first thing I had to do was figure out how to get that chipping wood off the top. I ended up taking a flat head screw driver and getting under the loose part of the layer and pulling it up as I went. It came off pretty easily.
I then took an orbital hand sander and sanded off the rest of the small pieces that were glued down for the long run until I had a nice smooth surface.
I also took a light flexible sanding sponge and sanded over the rest of the
piece so that my paint would go on smoothly.
piece so that my paint would go on smoothly.
Now for paint! I decided to used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White.
I thinned it out and painted two thin coats on the entire piece, except for inside
the drawer. After that dried, I sanded over the corners to let the darker wood
show through to create that nice chippy antique look. I then brushed on 2 coats of
clear wax and buffed it to a nice sheen.
This picture pretty sums up the style of my home. Old and Refurbished
