Touring Michelangelo's Home in Florence

When Michelangelo started having financial success, he began purchasing some properties. πŸ’° This townhouse was purchase for his nephew and namesake Michelangelo and has housed the family line for centuries. πŸ‘Now it’s a small museum that has his first two pieces- Madonna of the Stairs and The Battle of the Centaurs. πŸŽ¨

Although these are Michelangelo's first two works, you can definitely see signs of his burgeoning genius. Not to mention he was just a teenager when he did them. I highly recommend reading The Agony and the Ecstasy, it's a narrative biography and it makes Michelangelo's life some alive!

The ornate room was ceiling constructed by Michelangelo's nephew, as an homage to his life. It is filled with scenes of his accomplishments, working with three popes, the Medici, architecting the dome at St. Peter's Basilica and painting the Sistine. Unfortunately the lighting was awful in the room, but I hope you get the idea. πŸ’›πŸ§‘❤️πŸ’œπŸ’™
